An easy and very delicious dessert, called “Appelflappen” dates back to the 17th century. It’s predecessor “Appelbeignets” is even older. The Romans already ate something similar around 200 BC.
Ingredients
6 pieces
– 6 sheets of puff pastry
– 2 small sweet apples
– 3 tablespoons of sugar
– 1,5 teaspoons of cinnamon
– 50 grams of raisins
– 100 ml of water
Preparation
- 1) We start by peeling the apples. Then we cut them into very small pieces of about 0,5 cm by 0,5 cm, and put them in a large bowl.
- 2) Now add the following ingredients to the apple pieces: 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1,5 teaspoons of cinnamon and 50 grams of raisins. Mix all the ingredients together and put the bowl aside.
- 3) Move onto the pastry sheets. If you use frozen ones, let them first defrost for about 10 minutes. Place a plastic foley or other object where you can easily fold the pastry sheets on. Now, peel off the plastic, if there is any, and put a tablespoon of the apple mixture in the middle. Fold the pastry sheets in a diagonally direction from one end to another and place them on a oven tray. Repeat this for the other pastry sheets.
- 4) Pre-heat the oven to 220 degrees celsius. Then sprinkle the tops of the pastry sheets with a little bit water and then sprinkle them with sugar.
- 5) Finally bake them on 220 degrees celsius for about 20 minutes, until the top is crispy and has a layer of caramelized sugar.
Congratulations you’re done!
The appelflappen can be eaten both warm as cold and are delicious with a cup of tea or coffee.
